What is Counselling

Counselling is an individual experience therefore it is important to find someone you feel comfortable to talk with.

Counselling can be a place you can go to be yourself or sometimes to discover who you are or where you would like to be in life or to help you get started in achieving your own goals.

You can talk openly and honestly without feeling judged. Counselling is a place where you can feel supported whilst you work through difficult or painful problems you may have found too scary to face all by yourself or feel unable to talk to family and close friends about. Sometimes talking to a friend can be helpful and counsellors often encourage clients to use their family and friends. However there are some disadvantages to using friends as your only confidants and support.
Friends and family could feel a conflict of loyalty and find it hard to keep things confidential. They may become upset themselves by what you are telling them and could become upset if you don’t accept their advice. Friends may begin to feel overburdened, especially if they have their own problems too.

As a qualified counsellor the training means I have formal support and a work structure which helps me to deal with upsetting and difficult situations.

People are affected by so many more things than depression and anxiety that everyone talks about, these are often side effects of other issues including:

Depression, anxiety, relationship issues, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, chronic illness, domestic violence, loss of purpose / meaning, sexuality, abuse, work-related issues, anger management and separation / divorce, fears and phobias, bullying, family issues, loss of a pet, work-related, childhood problems, isolation.

Here at Counselling with Louise I focus on people and truly believe that in the right environment people can gain greater understanding of themselves and facilitate the change they want to see in their own lives.
Counselling supports you to make changes in your life that you may not have wanted to do alone, allowing yourself to move forwards with your life.

You don’t have to do it alone.
